Valley of Fire

The day after the parade of haulers, we took a drive through the Valley of Fire.  So named because there are red rocks growing out of the mountains in the desert.  Regular mountains are grey and brown, and then these shades of red rock.  One of the signs said that the brown and grey rocks were 200 million years old, and the red rocks are 60 million - just youngun's!
It was overcast and threatening to rain, but it didn't and it was warm for us, but cool for that area.

Here's some pictures of our trip.
Well, like the sign says, this is the entrance to Valley of Fire State Park.
Me at the sign.

Red rocks in the foreground, brown and grey in the background.

We stopped at the 'beehive' site.  The rocks are rounded and  look similar to beehives.  And the Harley t-shirt Dan is wearing is from Red Rock Harley Davidson.  But it's the one in Charlottetwon, PEI - not from here.

Another beehive.

This is the Atlatl rock - to the left of the rock you can see a staircase.  We went up to see the petroglyphs.

Some close ups of the petroglyphs.

Opening in the rock.  The sun was trying very hard to shine that day.

These arches form naturally over the years from the wind and rain.

This is Dan in front of one of the seven sisters.  It didn't look so big until you put it in perspective.

On our way out of the Valley of Fire State park and towards Lake Mead National Park.

Coming into Las Vegas from Lake Mead Natl Park.
