Day One: The Start of our Excellent Adventure! Boarding the Cruise Ship and Chania, Greece

We left Calgary on Sat Nov 5, and the milk run was Calgary Chicago, then to London, UK and finally to Athens on Nov 6.  And somewhere along the route, my suitcase got lost.  Not Dan's, though.  Oh no, it had to be the suitcase with my deodorant, make up, fresh undies ... I was stinky and miserable when we got the shuttle to the cruise ship.

Here's our state room - it wasn't a suite, but it sure was big!  Or at least bigger than I thought it would be.  Balcony with a table and two chairs,  King size bed, desk/dresser, closet, 3 pc washroom, flat screen TV that read "Good Morning Daniel and Cheryl Rector" each day when we turned it on!

And the view from our balcony as we left the dock:

The next morning, we sailed into Chania, Greece.  Here's some pictures of the coastline as we got closer.

Luckily, when we arrived in Chania, Greece on the island of Crete the following day, my luggage was waiting for the ship.  Along with some other passengers whose flights were delayed getting into Athens, so the ship left without them and the company ferried them over to Chania and they caught the cruise ship there.

Here's a picture of the TV screen that shows our lat and long coordinates and how far we've travelled.  We were anchored just off Chania when I took this picture:

Then we poked around Chania.

One of the many streets in the market.

Look through the doorway - it's the entrance to a church!

In one of the little squares around the town.
The church is the anchor of the square.

More market streets

Beautiful view down another little street

Another street ...

Except for the graffitti, this was another great little street.

Street sloping towards the coast.  Really interesting.

Okay, so now you get that I like taking pictures of streets ... there's plenty more to come!

Oh, this was a cool wall, made of stone from a millenia ago, no doubt!

Just thought it was an interesting door.  Solid wood, door handle up high.  Way more character than the doors we have on our houses here!

The water front at Chania.

That's our cruise ship in the background.  We tendered off shore and took a shuttle to the dock.  The wall you see is the breakwall.

This building was actually 'grew' out of the stone ground!

Interesting building at the dock.  No idea what it is, just interesting.

Just a ship anchored at the dock.
And that was it for Day One!

More to follow.
