Day Five - Kotor, Montenegro

As we came into the port of Kotor, there are two small islands - one is a church, and the other is the convent for the nuns.  As the cruise ship went past the convent, the captain blew the horn, and if the nuns are inside, they come out ringing their bells.  Sadly, it didn't happen when we passed the convent.

The view coming into Kotor.  Spectacular!

Coastal village.

Church on the mountain.

This is one end of the fortress wall that surrounds Old Town Kotor.

The archway in the background is the main entrance into Old Town.

I think this was one of the town wells from long ago.

View from partway up the trail to the castle.

This must have been a house at some point, but just two walls remain, and a tree is growing through the window.

I guess this is where they would shoot their arrows or later on, guns.

Stairs and alleyways everywhere!

This is the pulley system from the old drawbridge.  The drawbridge is long gone, but the pulleys are still there.

This rope is the on other side of the pulley above.

Now there's a permanent pathway where the drawbridge used to be.

One of the embellishments on the fortress wall.

Part of the fortress wall with the moat in front of it.

This is a night picture of the trail that leads to the top castle.
