Remembrance Day 2012

Instead of going to the city's Remembrance Day service, we decided we could better respect the memories of the soldiers by cleaning off the memorial crosses on Veteran's Blvd. It was cold, about -9 deg C, but at least it was sunny.

Bill joined us - I don't know if you can see his ball cap, but it's a Canadian Forces cap, given to him by a friend of his who retired from the forces.  You'll also see Dan's medals; the one that is missing is his medal from Afghanistan.  He hasn't had it mounted yet.  Definitely for next year it will be mounted and he'll be able to wear it.

Here's some pictures:
Here's a view looking west along Veteran's Blvd.  The snow plow kicked up the slush that covered the names on the crosses.  That's what we were there to clean off.

There was a cross for the Unknown Soldier.

A view of Dan and Bill cleaning the crosses.

Dan and Bill.

Dan and me.

The names on the crosses are men who lived in Airdrie before they went off to serve.  There were about 25 crosses in total.
